Rex Avery

President | Long Play Capital

Rex Avery is the President of Longplay Capital, having assumed the role in 2021 after a long and successful career in the hospitality industry. Rex’s journey began in June 1978 as a night auditor at Sinbad’s Hotel. His dedication and talent quickly saw him rise through the ranks, becoming the assistant manager in 1989 and eventually the manager by 1992. In 1996, he became the General Manager of Steele Hotels, and by 1981, he was promoted to Vice President of Hotel Operations at Steele Hotels.

A graduate of vocational school with a Diploma in Accounting in 1978, Rex also holds several prominent leadership roles in the industry. He has served as Chair for Hospitality NL, the NL Tourism Board, and other prestigious organizations such as ACTP, Chair of the Hotel Association of NL, the Hotel Association of Canada, and the Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce. Rex also served for several years on the Gander Worldwide Advisory Committee.

In 2023, Rex was honoured with the Tourism Champion Award from Hospitality NL, a recognition of his lasting contributions to the industry. Among his most proud accomplishments are overseeing the construction of The Capital Hotel and Jag.

Outside of work, Rex enjoys reading and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He continues to find motivation in learning new things every day to help Longplay Capital grow.
