Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John’s, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a Lifeguard to join our growing team at JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive “can-do” attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

· Oversee swimming activities, ensuring compliance with facility policies, safety guidelines, and procedures

· Evaluate and maintain safety standards for equipment and water conditions

· Respond promptly and calmly to emergencies, administering First Aid, CPR, or artificial respiration, when necessary

· Educate patrons on safe recreational behaviors and enforce safety policies, and warning of potential dangers

· Maintain facility cleanliness and ensure proper storage of equipment

· Document incidents, including accidents and near misses, and escalate situations beyond expertise when necessary

· Demonstrate a professional and positive presentation to guests and colleagues, and be well groomed

· Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

· 5 years of experience is preferred

· Must possess a current National Lifeguard Lifesaving Society [NLS] Certification

· Must be certified in Standard First Aid and CPR

· Provide a clear Criminal Record Screening Certificate and Vulnerable Sector Check

· Meet physical and mental fitness standards required for lifeguarding, including quick response capability and the ability to lift varying weights

· Demonstrate strong swimming proficiency and comfort in various water conditions

· Apply lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques to recognize and respond to emergencies

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patrons

· Strong attention to detail when monitoring and assessing pool and recreation areas
